your phone. Period.
Bangon is built with privacy as a core principle, not an afterthought. Here is exactly how your data is handled.
Data We Collect (Local Tracker)
The core debt tracking features of Bangon do not collect or transmit any personal or financial data. We do not have analytics, tracking pixels, telemetry, crash reports, or user accounts for tracker functionality.
Data Stored on Your Device
The app stores the following information locally on your device only, using IndexedDB storage:
- Your name (only if you choose to provide it during onboarding)
- Loan details you manually enter (name, amount, interest rate, due dates, photos, notes)
- Payment history and transactions you log
- Your monthly budget and payoff strategy preference
- App settings (theme, language, PIN, profiles)
This data never leaves your device. You can export it as a JSON file at any time, or delete it instantly by clearing app data or uninstalling.
Community Features (Optional, Opt-In)
Bangon includes optional community features that require a network connection: OLA Reviews, Bangon Stories, Tips & Articles, Community Chat, and Harassment Logger. These features use our backend (Supabase) to share content among users. Here's how your data is handled:
- Anonymous device ID — A random UUID is generated on your device and stored in localStorage. We do not collect your real name, email, phone number, or any other identifier.
- Device token — A private secret kept on your device. It allows you to edit or delete your own posts. Never transmitted publicly.
- Public content you submit — Reviews, stories, comments, chat messages, and harassment reports you choose to post are sent to our backend and shared with other users. You may opt to keep harassment logs private (not shared).
- Display name — You may set an optional display name (e.g. "Maria") for community posts. We recommend pseudonyms — do not share your real name.
- No server-side analytics or ads tracking — Our backend stores only the content you submit, plus timestamps and anonymous identifiers needed for ownership.
Permissions
Bangon requests the following Android permissions:
- Notifications: To remind you of upcoming due dates. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device and never sent through any server.
- Camera / Storage: Only when you explicitly choose to attach a photo to a loan (e.g., a screenshot of an SOA). Photos are resized and stored locally as base64 inside the app's IndexedDB.
- Internet: Required only for community features (chat, reviews, stories, articles). The core debt tracker works offline.
Third-Party Services
Bangon uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase — backend database for community features. Hosted in Singapore (ap-southeast-1). Only data you choose to publish is stored there.
- Google AdMob — displays banner ads to support free development. AdMob collects anonymous advertising identifiers per Google's policies. See Google's ads policy.
- Google Play Services — for app installation, updates, in-app billing infrastructure (currently unused).
Data Retention
Public community content (reviews, stories, comments, public harassment reports) is retained indefinitely. You can delete your own content from within the app at any time. Private harassment logs marked non-public can only be deleted by you and are not shown to other users.
Children's Privacy
Bangon is intended for adults (18+) managing personal finances. We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy ever changes, the update will be reflected on this page and within the app's update notes. The core principle — that your debt tracking data stays on your device — will never change.
